Be Doers of the Word

 Hello dear Ones!

I hope this past week was filled with blessings for you! The picture shows my scripture writing for this week. As I thought about this passage, there were two main points that impressed me. The first was what is stated right at the beginning, we are to be DOERS of the Word. This, to me, means action. Not action in a “earn your way to heaven” sort of way—for that is impossible. My debt was too great, and only the sinless Jesus taking my place could pay that debt. But this verse is still calling us to action. To do the good we know.  To follow what He has taught and shown us. To read and follow what has clearly been laid out in His WORD. Why? Out of fear?  No!  Out of love.  Out of knowing that HE knows what is best for us.  Knowing that only by following our Creator will we ever truly live. Like Peter said, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.” John 6:68

The second thing that stood out to me from this passage was the part where it talks about the face. So much communication happens on the face.  Sometimes just be looking at a face a doctor can know immediately that a patient is indeed quite sick. Our faces can depict joy.  One of the very first things a baby can focus its eyes on is the mother’s face as the baby is nursing. And a most treasured gift that a grandparent receives is a picture of their grandchildren.

This verse talks about a man forgetting what he was like. The Bible is our mirror—revealing our own sinful natures to us, but then pointing us to our example and Redeemer and Savior. It is Jesus’ face that I never want to forget—that I never want to take my eyes off of.  For if it is true that by beholding we become changed (2 Cor. 3:18), then it is to be like Jesus that I want to be changed to. “One thing I have desired of the LORD…to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD.” Psalm 27:4 “Your eyes will behold the king in his beauty; they will see a land that stretches afar.” Isaiah 33:17

And so, dear ones, I was thinking about how we need to keep our faces turned towards the Son, when I drew my humble little sunflowers turning their faces towards the sun. Our troubled world has much happening all around us.  If there is any pain or suffering that I can relieve, may I do it. But through everything, I just want to keep my gaze on our beautiful Jesus’ face. And never forget it.

Until next time,

Friend
