Pennies From Heaven
Hello Dear Ones!
How have you been the past couple of weeks? I hope you are staying well! I am afraid illness struck first myself, and a day later my daughter. Missing my volunteer activities, part time job, and weekly Bible study were not in my plans for sure—but it is a blessing to just take the time that you need to rest, when your body needs it. We are all better now, and my hubby seems to have managed to escape our germs, so I am thankful for that!
So—being unwell, I spent most of a week resting on the couch. I guess in a way that helped save a bit, as I was not out spending money anywhere! During this past week when I have been well, it feels like you get so behind in everything when you miss even just a few days of “normal life.” But I remember not that long ago when everyone was having to stay home and all activities were cancelled, and I am so thankful I had activities to return to as soon as I was well again!
I have managed a few saving activities in the past week. In no particular order, my list is as follows:
1) I went to Aldi’s twice on the same sale, once at the beginning and again the last day. They had both the three pound bags of apples on sale ($2.49) as well as the three pound bags of mandarins ($2.99) which are great prices in my neck of the woods. These are also fruits that we eat a lot of, and they last well in the fridge as well, so we have both feasted and stocked our fridge.
2) I ordered my glasses at Walmart Vision Center, and received a 30% discount on them since I had also purchased a year’s supply of contact lens within 30 days. I absolutely love my new glasses, and I can see better which is the whole point! It is always hard for me to choose frames that look good on me, and I was just telling the ladies who work at the Vision Center that I wished my daughter had been able to come with me to help me choose my new frames, when at that exact moment she texted me! She was literally in the ten minutes in between her college classes! I had already narrowed things down to four different frames, and quickly took a picture of myself in each of the four and texted them to her. She shot a reply back immediately with the frames she liked best, and I ordered those and LOVE them! Isn’t that a blessing? And my 30% discount saved me around $72, which is much appreciated on my end!
3) I called my pest control company about the bill I had received to renew our contract. The amount had raised over $50, and I simply asked if there was any discounts or other things they might be able to do to help with that amount. The customer service person said they could honor my amount for last year’s contract, which J gratefully accepted. They also said if I renewed for two years instead of just one, they could give me a further discount. Since we live in the South, and termites are always going to be eager to munch our house, termite protection is a must have. And the prices are not going down, that is for sure! So I decided to go ahead and renew for two years. This one phone call, about ten minutes in length, saved $112. That was well worth asking about, in my opinion. . .
4) I ordered two bags of cat food from Chewy, for the critter who is truly in charge of the household. Chewy prices are the same as my Walmart prices—BUT Chewy had sent me a coupon for $20 off of a $49 order. And with prices being what they are, two bags would reach that amount, and I have enough space to store that much food. . . However—when I went to type in the promo code on the website, it was not taking my promo code. ☹️ Boo! Customer service to the rescue! I called the company, explained the trouble I was having, and asked if there was a way they could help me with my order. They were more than happy to, and by the time I was off the phone with them, the combination of my $20 coupon plus my order being a bundle of two with a further discount gave me a total of $39 in savings over if I had paid full price. Plus they deliver free to my front door. His Highness is very pleased that his pantry will continue to be well stocked!
5) I made free Valentine’s Day cards at our local library. ♥️ They had a table out with free scrapbook paper, stickers, heart shaped doilies, markers, glue sticks, glitter, scissors, etc. Since I was waiting anyway for my daughter, who had been swallowed by the book stacks and showed no indication of ever returning, I took advantage of the time to make Valentines for a few people whom I carry in my ♥️. It was good to have a moment to think about how grateful I am for each person, and what a blessing they are in my life.
Glad to hear you are feeling better. Yes, sometimes I think our bodies and God, tells us we need to slow down and when we don't - then BAM they make us.
ReplyDeleteI really like Chewy - they take good care of their customers.
Wishing you a blessed week.
